Citizens for Decent Literature Press was founded in 2011 as a project of The Literary Underground. Established first as a print zine and APA (Amateur Press Association), on January 1, 2012 Now Playing @ Citizens for Decent Literature began publishing selections of poetry, short stories, essays and podcasts online every third day. In August 2012, Now Playing@CFDL moved to a monthly issue publication format, publishing on the 15th. CFDL APA #3 (April 2012) included the first in the Little Books, Roll Your Own Stories and the Manuscript series. On June 1, 2012 it was decided that a Chapbook Series would be added to the publishing efforts.

Hobart (online) was created in 2001 and continued to update with monthly issues, until this very website was built and launched in September 2012 and we moved to daily content. Every April is devoted to an annual baseball issue, and the publication of print issues is paired with a month of "bonus materials."

In 2003, the journal grew into a biannual print journal, and continues with a kinda irregular schedules that usually seems to average out to be about three issues every two years. We've also mostly held to every other issue being a theme issue, though this schedule and structure could break at any moment.
