Black oil slick city night
All dark without stars
The sleeping trees and shrubberies
In quiet lanes breathing the midnight breeze
The windstorm shivers the leaves
We are gone
Dart fish bustling through congested veins
High definition highways
And glittering avenues with streetlamps aglow
Nightlife and the spectacle
Neon coral in strangely similar boxy windows
In shadows of shadows
Where light can bend no more
Over cityscape under slime, sticky ooze, and rotten dust
Silk skin sharks and leathery eels
In cave like bars
Imagine greasy victory
Over anemones and crabs
The pesky shrimp pimped out
Under the rising tide
The rising industrial smoke of progress
The smoke of stoned fish
Living in this great abyss
Home mortgages underwater
Under the sea
Out from this octopus’s garden
I look up to see
A half moon shimmering
Shrouded by a veil of thin storm clouds
The storm moving away from us
A translucent half moon
Moving against the current
Like a jellyfish
Escaping all this madness
