Room 401

the day Houdini died

by c. m. brooks

the simple white shuttered room
was where Death performed
her crowning victory
drawing you into her ineffable web
mounting you- she cracked her whip
then quietly held you with her gaze
and gave her final kiss, the key held tightly
never passing it to you through her lips

she was the one who stole the show
made you bow and kneel but held you,
unrestrained
no need for locks or balls and chain
a wholly unexpected twist in your infernal game
because invisibly she bound you
then took your wand  and dragged you
into the eternal flame
and with her horny lust she finally
and completely swallowed you

About c. m. brooks

c.m.brooks... I am a traveling poet living and thriving in the cool suburb of Detroit called Ferndale, Michigan... notorious for hosting one of the largest Gay Pride events in the Midwest and also the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise every year. I've read in various places in Michigan and all over Northern Ohio. I'm such a regular at many Ohio poetry events... that Cleveland is a second home. I've featured my work at several venues and have a chapbook that will be published this fall through Poet's Haven Press. I also have the honored distinction of being a banned poet. I love gardening, reading, sword fighting- my specialties are foil and sabre- I have a vast collection of Star Wars action figures, and old vinyl, and am an avid student of Eastern philosophy. I am somewhat of an expert on the I-Ching... a form of Chinese divination. I've perhaps put on more miles going to poetry events in the Midwest than anyone else I know. I have a son in the Army and a husband 25 yrs. older than I am who has Alzheimer's. I have more poetry friends than you can shake a stick at and my collection of vinyl LPs would strike envy in the heart of a collector. You can find me on Fb as Christina M. Brooks or MySpace as Rune Warrior.
