There's those people who live life
like it were some perfectly acceptable state of being
like the days and hours
were workable, bearable things
while me and everyone I've known and loved
wake daily into chaos
traversing moment to moment
like dizzy clowns on razorwire
swaying over pits of fire and void
high above the fucks
who walk seemingly easy upon the earth
who try and hide their fear
like people couldn't smell it
a mile away
or see it in the movement of their hands
while we wear it like our Sunday best
offering up daily sacrifices
of wine and blood
and who knows what
with a despairing bemusement
a confused and desperate joy
and I'm just throwing all these words out here
hoping something will stick
cuz I'm trying to get around to
writing a poem about Joe
and I don't know how
Joe he'd stay up for days drinking whiskey
shooting shit and cracking jokes
with the saddest truths this dumbass world could muster
he knew the absurdity of our hours by name
made friends with the madness and fire and wore it
like a funny hat
they say there's no escape for anybody
but I think maybe if you have the force of will
to choose your own madness and your own fire
then maybe that is something
but that's probably bullshit too
and the lines for the urinals of hell
are twisting and endless
but hey Joe I managed
to sneak in some shitty wine.
