The wheat fields and sky and

Thunderstorms:

The churches and empty

Chairs, and

Still life - now, when I fall asleep

There are tables and bottles and

Perfect oranges.

I have been dreaming about

Sandstone cottages and

Women adorned in red ribbons:

They call me by my name, to come

Bend to the roots and the

Soil beneath morning, the

Sun a halo.

The visual connection with the art in this poem is strong for me because the wheat field paintings have always held a dreamlike quality, like an altered reality that is just out of touch. The final lines of the poem really haunt me - the image of the women calling... Nicely done.
