love will never know me as well as I know it
or the sound of lives clanking together like broken teeth
or the fire that fills up your brain at the start of the new day
well the new day has started, and
life is still watching me – pearly eyed and opalescent.
life is still carrying me. pounds and bones and something
to pound on the pavement.

the new day has started and my
feet are all ready to fly.
my fears are tucked into my shirt
and my shirt is tucked into myself.

I am a walking machine that doesn’t know where to begin.
how to walk, how to run, how to gather up your belongings
and face that fearless fire of a day.

I am a walking machine that only knows how to crawl.
But here I go,
here I go anyway,
crawling along at my own swelling speed.

learning how to get there.
learning how to get there.
