The weather

finally starting to turn

but with the fires and all –

the sun still cast

its orange shadows.

Gives an old man

uneasy feelings.

Been though it before.

The trees in the back

still show their scars.

Mine, not so easy.

They’re a bit harder to read

especially this time of year

with my heavy coat

and dark pants.

Grief likes to keep its

secrets warm.

Like most old men

I hide mine.
